“Mirror of the Witch” – the perfect historical fairytale

I adore fairytales; that is why I was surprised in a good way by the “Mirror of the Witch” series. It has all the elements to get you trapped in the story, to make you dream and feel the magic.

There are some fiction elements borrowed from “The Night Watchman’s Journal”  – black evil spirits, the greedy shaman who wants to destroy the Joseon, the dedicated team warrior who fight for Joseon freedom.  Even so this fairytale has its high parts: great actors, great storyline and well-contoured characters.

The series depicts the life of Seo Ri (Kim Sae Ron) who was born under a powerful curse. Her mother Queen Sim (Jang Hee Jin – a rare beauty) was unable to have children and full of despair asks a shaman for help. With the black magic help, she succeeds to get birth to twins a girl and a boy. Unfortunately, the poor princess is put under an unbreakable spell and is abandoned in mountains where becomes a fearful witch when she celebrates her 17’s anniversary. With Heo Joon’s (Yoon Shi Yoon), who is the royal physician, help she will succeed to break the spell and to became an ordinary person.

“Witch’s Mirror” is a fantasy historical K-drama, which will air on JTBC, Fridays & Saturdays at 08:30 pm.
